BeGeistert Opens April 10, Workshop and Code Sprint Follow
The 22nd series of BeGeistert, the Haiku community event with the longest history, is scheduled to take place the weekend of April 10th and 11th in Düsseldorf, Germany. Under the "Return of the Cola-Coder" codename, BeGeistert 022 is expected to count with the presence many prominent Haiku developers as well as community members, both old and new, all of whom will gather in a relaxed atmosphere that allows them to pass on the "Haiku spirit" by discussing topics in depth, collaborating and exchanging knowledge and experience.
In addition to the usual spirit of collaboration, BeGeistert 022 is also expected to feature talks and presentations, with the actual program develping in the run up to the event itself. According to a recent announcement in the Haiku mailing list, special attention will be placed on the WebPositive native browser (development blog posts and bug tracker) currently in full development, as well as other (unspecified) Haiku native applications.
The BeGeistert weekend will be followed by a week-long Haiku Coding Sprint. This is known to be the most productive hardcore hacking event in the history of the Haiku project, so a flurry of development activity is expected to ocurr during this week. There is also the expectation that discussions leading to the next alpha 2 release will take place, although it is not clear at the time of this writing whether any hard decisions will come out of BeGeistert in this respect.
This year's BeGeistert week is juicier than ever, though. For the first time, a development workshop will be held on Monday 12th April, with Haiku developer Stephan "Stippi" Aßmus (who is currently working on the WebPositive native browser for Haiku) offering a hands-on introduction to Haiku development targeted at programmers new to the platform or even to programming itself. Attendance to the workshop requires advance registration and costs €75.
Those interested in attending BeGeistert and/or the Haiku development workshop can register online. Time is running out (and so may be the space too), so don't wait!
BeGeistert is put together by the Haiku Support Association (HSA), an organization of users and developers whose objective is to promote the development and further adoption of Haiku.
