Building the OpenJDK Hotspot Repository in Haiku

News by Jorge G. Mare on Mon, 12/28/2009 - 19:35

Andrew Bachmann, the developer who leads the project to port SUN's OpenJDK to Haiku, has been busy lately making progress with his effort to bring Java to the Haiku platform. Known for having worked on the port of Java to BeOS (which you can see in action here), Andrew recently has posted on the Haiku Blog-O-Sphere step-by-step instructions on how to build the OpenJDK "hotspot" repository in Haiku. The result of this build process is a partial JRE (Java Runtime Environment) which includes the libjvm.so libraries.

Haiku OpenJDK Port Now Has Official Repository

News by Jorge G. Mare on Sat, 10/17/2009 - 12:54

After a long wait since the project was kicked off back in early 2008, the Haiku OpenJDK Port sponsored by the OpenJDK Porters Group finally has an official Mercurial forest. The forest, which has already seen some commits, is expected to become a crucial tool in enabling the collaboration expressed over time by several individuals whose efforts were constrained due to the lack of a source code repository. Commits to the Haiku OpenJDK Port repository can be followed through the haiku-port-dev mailing list or the online change log. On a related note, according to the project's lead developer, Andrew Bachmann, he has translated the MakeDeps tool to C++, so that it is suitable for building OpenJDK on any platform without the need for java.
